good refrain, bad in the interim... "when we're at the take-off point"

When we reach
the take-off point
You have to swear
You won't disappoint
When I watch
from far away
You have to swear
That I can stay

These gray days
Are neither here nor there
I write it down
To check it off
Make preparations
To get tough
But it's just more time spent
Waiting on a cue
A sign from you
To know it's true
To know it's true

When we're about to go
I will want you to know
I will swear
I love you so
I will swear
I can bear
The delay
To another day...

These gray days
Are neither here nor there
I write it down
To check it off
Make preparations
To get tough
But it's just more time spent
Waiting on a cue
A sign from you
To know it's true
To know it's true

wildfire

I have a soul like wildfire
Leaping from surface to surface
To fill every nook and cranny
Of a combustible existence

Oh, to burn so clearly!
To rage with sustained hunger
Is to feel the pains of a world
Yet unfilled, never completed
To have a soul like wildfire

anything posing as a poem that includes 'asphalt jungle' is... not a good song. in fact i think this only makes sense in couplets rather than stanzas.

Got lost in a marble staircase
Morphed into an asphalt jungle
Now I'm with like-minded creatures
Tearing up the book

Disillusioned, disenchanted
The city I decamped
Left without a woman or a dime
Where I was going I'd get plenty of mine

I slept on stars under roofs
Wrote memoirs at public libraries
Spent a lot of time getting out of the squeeze
Now I'm where I belong amidst the trees

save yourself for later

I come from a town
Where life is sold wholesale
Forget what it's not
Let's see what's in stock

Don't try too hard
Let's see if it's feasible
Don't exhaust yourself
Oh, the places you'll go

You've got to save yourself for later
You'll do something greater
Me, I'll just go
And meet my creator
You've got to save, save yourself for later
Me, I'll reap what I sow
I'll ask the waiter...

Chalk it all up
To a shadowy dictator
Lay it all on
Anyone but me

You've got to save yourself for later
You'll do something greater
Me, I'll just go
And meet my creator
You've got to save, save yourself for later
Me, I'll reap what I sow
I'll ask the waiter...

I'd almost forgotten
What a morning breeze felt like
I sit in the bleachers
Cheering it on

Lift me back
Slap me around
I can take it
I always have

You've got to save yourself for later
You'll do something greater
Me, I'll just go
And meet my creator
You've got to save, save yourself for later
Me, I'll reap what I sow
Reap what I sow
What I sow

on the notion of progress

Nervous/service

Fair lady, your conduct makes me nervous
Your walls are up in hellish creeping flame
I cannot accept your faithful service
Take flight, hasten away, innocent dame
Dedication is not what I deserve
My heart does not mirror the outer blaze
Godspeed, leave this wreck to yourself preserve
Escape, woman, from this infernal maze
If you refuse, I would abdicate this fate
And, trying, fail; for fire has found function
She, unscathed; I cook as on a hotplate
Knowing, I never felt compunction,
Never explained; I loved her ignorance,
Now blackened, I have felt nothing long since

incomplete, variation on 'in the morninglight' theme

Even though I know I'm just a drop in a bucket
Even though I know I'm just a grain of sand
I can still see the road through the fog
And maybe I want you to take a stand

Surely you know I can see you crying
Surely you know tears are no warranty
I can still see flashes in your eyes
And maybe I just want to set you free

forgiveness, a jason mraz song that will never be

Forgiveness
forgiveness
Dont ever try
To apologize
For staying by
The things we tried

Forgiveness
forgiveness
A philosophy
Your company
No more pity
No heavy sighs

Forgiveness
forgiveness
Sweet tenderness
Never beat
No higher feat
You can't compete
There's no retreat!

does my lost lover truly exist

Does my lost lover truly, think you, exist
Or was it but naïve to think, a wish?
Good woman, but what woman, will be missed?

A watch that wore at my wrist
A fishbowl without a fish
Does my lost lover truly exist

I know there is illusion amidst
Is it all a candle without a wick
Good woman, but what woman, will be missed.

Sans substance naught subsists
Her silhouette, my cognition, a trick
Does my lost lover truly exist

A flickering rumor in my head persists
Convinced before the trial had begun
Good woman, but what woman, will be missed.

What seduction should today enlist
With incongruence my heart wast won
Does my lost lover truly, think you, exist
Good woman, but what woman, will be missed?

terrible attempt with a good last couple lines

The totality of misery
envelopes me in a puffy blanket
the alienness of strangeness
guards against familiarity
Do I know you
Do I know you
Do I know you
Do I know you
The sameness of the everyday
All is work and naught is play
I will not play this game today
Life is a price I cannot pay
But hey,
Have it your way
I just watch the door
Turn up the air when it's hot
Sometimes convince myself
Equilibrium is a whore
Worth fighting for

a raconteurs song that will never be

Time marches on to the beat of the drum
Luckily it's a cadence we both can hum
I tell you girl I'll be here for you
For years to come
Years to come

Now I could watch grass grow for a million hours
I got to tell you girl you've got mysterious powers
By this time I'm transfixed enough
To give you a flower
Give you a flower

Summer spits you at me like a tommy gun
I don't know what it was you said but now I'm undone
By this time I'm enchanted enough
To sit with you in the sun
WIth you in the sun

Wind steps in and out like a whispering thief
Regarding our salvation I have strong beliefs
By this time I'm foolish enough
To jump in the leaves
To play in the leaves

Eyes are looking through the ice with a crazy glow
I tell you girl I'll be here for you
In the sparkling snow
The sparkling snow

a sonic youth song that will never be

I've got a valentine in my heart/
But I don't know who'll play the part/
I'm thinking that it could be you/
And if it's not you, I don't know who.
